Bird of Paradise

Bird of Paradise plant

The Bird of Paradise (BOP) will live forever, can grow up to 2 metres in your home and produce the most beautiful flowers with enough light, warmth and patience. Hailing from the coast of South Africa, these sun lovers leaves allow real life birds to perch on top, drink the delicious nectar from their flowers and pollinate other green BOP friends.

What a plant!

Light

100% sun-lovers, we have ours in a south facing window that gets constant direct sunlight for most of the day. They will even do well outdoors in hot summer months. With enough light and warmth, you can expect to see those flowers when they are about 4-5 years old.

Water

Keep your BOP's soil slightly moist throughout the spring and summer by watering 1-2 times per week. In the winter, let the soil dry out before giving it another drink.

As always, rain water is best!

Humidity

BOPs love a humid environment so keep up the spritz or place them in a sunlit kitchen or bathroom

Feeding

You can give them a general, all-purpose plant feed every 3-4 weeks in the summer to help growth. Yum!

Toxicity

Mildly toxic to cats and dogs if eaten in large quantities but keep an eye on your pet if they have a little chew too.
